Privacy Statement

Last updated July 30, 2026

In plain English: we collect the least amount of information needed to run a family app — your email, a display name, and the family content you choose to add. We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, we do not track you across the web, and you can delete your account and everything in it from Settings at any time.

1. Our approach: collect as little as possible

Mi Fam is built around data minimization. Fields that aren't required to make the app work — phone number, birthday, bio, photo — are optional, and you can leave them blank or remove them later. We ask for a piece of information only when a feature you use depends on it.

2. What we store

  • Account information — your email address and a display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile image from Google; we never receive your Google password.
  • Family profile — display name, role (adult, teen, kid, grandparent) and any optional details you choose to add: bio, birthday, phone, notes, profile photo.
  • Family structure — the branches you belong to, your relationships to other people (parent, child, sibling, spouse), maternal/paternal side tags, and branch permissions.
  • Content you create — events, invitations, RSVPs, feed posts, threads, and any photos or videos you upload.
  • Invitations — the email address you invite, who sent it, the branch it belongs to, and its status.
  • Basic operational records — account creation and sign-in timestamps kept by our authentication provider, and a support activity log recording any action a support administrator takes on an account.

3. What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — ever.
  • We do not show advertising and do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not track you across other websites or apps, and we use no advertising or profiling trackers.
  • We do not collect your precise location or track your device's movements.
  • We do not read your content to build marketing profiles or train advertising models.
  • We do not ask for government IDs, social security numbers, or payment details — Mi Fam is free.

4. Why we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To show your family the calendars, events, posts, and profiles you have chosen to share with them.
  • To deliver invitations and account emails such as confirmation and password reset.
  • To keep the service working, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot problems you report to us.
  • To comply with the law when we are legally required to.

We rely on your consent and on the performance of our agreement with you (these Terms) as our legal bases for processing, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.

5. Who can see your information

Mi Fam is a private network. Your content is visible only to people connected to you through the family graph and the sharing rules you choose:

  • Branch content is visible to members of that branch.
  • Maternal and paternal sides are kept separate unless you explicitly share something with both.
  • Events are visible only to the branches or people selected as the audience.
  • Branch admins can see and manage profiles and content within the branches they administer, including children's managed profiles.
  • Contact details on children's profiles are hidden from ordinary members.

A designated support administrator can access account records in order to resolve sign-in problems and to carry out deletion requests. Every such action is written to an internal support log. Support administrators cannot log in as you and cannot see your password.

6. Service providers

We use a small number of providers strictly to operate the app. They process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

  • Application hosting and content delivery.
  • Database, authentication, and file storage (our managed backend provider).
  • Transactional email delivery for invitations, confirmations, and password resets.
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.

7. Children's information

Mi Fam does not offer accounts to children under 13. Profiles for children exist only as managed profiles created by a responsible adult, with no sign-in credentials of their own. Adults should add only the minimum a child's profile needs — usually just a first name and role. A parent or guardian may ask us at any time to review or delete a child's profile by emailing idealostechnologies@gmail.com, and we will act on verified requests promptly.

8. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with encryption at rest by our backend provider. Access to family data is enforced at the database level with row-level security policies, so the rules travel with the data rather than living only in the app. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings → Delete my account and data, or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes:

  • your sign-in account and profile,
  • the person records and family details you created,
  • your branch memberships and role assignments,
  • invitations you sent and join requests you made, and
  • branches you own (transferred to another branch admin, or deleted with their content, at your choice).

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Encrypted backups may retain copies for a short period before expiring on our normal backup cycle. Support log entries about a deletion are kept in an anonymized form for accountability.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and California privacy law), you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Most of these you can do yourself inside the app; for anything else, email idealostechnologies@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Mi Fam does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law.

11. Cookies and local storage

We use only what the app needs to function: a session token so you stay signed in, and browser local storage for your preferences and drafts. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

12. International use

Mi Fam is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored there. If you use the app from another country, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

13. Changes to this statement

If we change this statement we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Mi Fam after a change means you accept the updated statement.
